In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is one of a group of female figures who escort the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, the hall of the god Odin. There, the departed warriors are transformed into einherjar, meaning 'lone fighters' or 'elite warriors.'
This fine detailed sculpture shows one of these valkyrie wearing her helmet and long dress while riding her horse very gracefully. A magnificent Art Deco style display that is made after the great work by Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet (1885–1972).
